A Swarm of Drones and Guided Munitions: The Ministry of Strategic Industry organised demonstration tests of Ukrainian solutions
posted 30 October 2024 16:10

Demonstration tests of technological solutions from Ukrainian manufacturers were held, focusing on drone swarms for group missions and guided munitions. The event was organised by the Ministry of Strategic Industry in cooperation with Brave1 and supported by the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the General Staff and the National Guard of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Strategic Industries has created a platform for communication between different agencies in order to improve the quality and efficiency of products and solutions.

According to Herman Smetanin, Minister of Strategic Industries, this kind of joint interaction will make the presented solutions as effective as possible on the front line.

Swarms of drones are an advanced technology that will allow the military to stay not one, but several steps ahead of the enemy. We are working on the quantity of such products, but quality must come first. The defence industry must provide the armed forces with the products they really need. The most effective, relevant products, designed for the conditions in which military operations take place. To help manufacturers achieve this, we organize such events,” noted Herman Smetanin, Minister of Strategic Industry.

Seventeen manufacturers showcased their developments (at various stages of readiness) and demonstrated their operation. Seven presented swarm drone technology for group missions, while ten displayed guided munitions of various weights. Manufacturers discussed the operating principles of their solutions and demonstrated the execution of group drone missions at the test site with minimal operator involvement. Additionally, guided munitions were tested, including drops from over 1 km in altitude with deviation measurements from the target.

Our goal is to help the Ukrainian military save lives. We aim to replace humans with drones wherever possible, especially in high-risk situations. This is already happening, with drones carrying out combat and reconnaissance missions and helping with medical evacuations. Therefore, we are actively working to improve these solutions, making them smarter and more effective in the hands of our armed forces," said Anna Hvozdyar, Deputy Minister of Strategic Industry.

The event was attended by representatives of the SAR Research Institute and the State Research Institute, who discussed with manufacturers the development of technical requirements and principles for formulating test methods, so that manufacturers can better prepare their products for testing, certification and other necessary procedures.

Military personnel, as the end-users of these products, reviewed the solutions and provided recommendations for improvement and enhancement.
