On October 19, a presentation of the All-Ukrainian project «Iron Shelter» organized by the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine took place in one of Kyiv's civil shelters. The following took part: Minister Oleksandr Kamyshin, his deputy Timur Tkachenko, as well as adviser to the deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Oleksandr Kachurin, deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andriy Vitrenko, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Inna Solodka, deputy head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on issues of digital development, digital transformations and digitalization Roman Prymush, MPs Anna Purtova and Andrii Bohdanets.

During the event, the Minister for Strategic Industries spoke about the results of the work carried out. We remind that on June 27, the Government instructed Oleksandr Kamyshin to monitor and coordinate the restoration of shelters in Ukraine.

The first audit, carried out by the Ministry in June, revealed that the fund of protective structures of the Civil Defense of Ukraine includes 61,328 functioning shelters of various types, a large part of which is in poor condition. During four months of work, 2,604 of them were brought to proper condition. By the end of the year, another 2,956 repaired shelters will be added. ₴1.4 billion will be spent on this. The sources of funding are local budgets, state subsidies, funds from donors and patrons.

Today, the total number of functioning shelters is 61,803 structures.

«A program of this scale means a huge number of participants, starting from local self-government bodies and ending with charitable foundations. As coordinators, we are grateful to each of them, because we see how coordinated and dedicated they can work. Our common goal is to provide adequate shelters for the entire population of the country and to develop a culture of their use», said Oleksandr Kamyshin.

From now on, you can follow the progress of repair work in all regions of Ukraine in real time on the «Iron Shelter» website (https://www.ironshelter.gov.ua/).

As well, during the event, a manual with methodical recommendations on the repair and arrangement of shelters of various types was presented. This is the first document of its kind in Ukraine, which covers the maximum number of aspects that reduce all requirements to uniform standards of shelters throughout the country. Such information will be useful to responsible persons in the arrangement of civil defense facilities. The manual is publicly available on the website.

The Ministry is also working on the culture of using civil defense facilities.

«For this, we have developed a navigation system that allows you to easily find shelter even in a foreign city. Our goal is not just to show a mark on the map, we want people to have a route directly to the door of the shelter», said Deputy Minister Timur Tkachenko.
